Career Night by Wacha Ignites Marauders 80-56 Win over Peacocks

BISMARCK, ND - The University of Mary Women's Basketball team kicked off the weekend home stay in dominating fashion Friday night. From beginning to end, the Marauders (10-6, 9-4 NSIC) were in the driver's seat taking an 80-56 win against the Upper Iowa University Peacocks (6-12, 2-11 NSIC). In what could be their last meeting with the Peacocks as a member of the NSIC, the Marauders remain unbeaten over Upper Iowa in the McDowell Activity Center.

A first-possession trey by Addison Rozell would put the Marauders on the board first, giving them the lead which stuck for the rest of the game. The Marauders created a comfortable distance at the end of the first quarter, leading 26-13 after a fast start offensively.

The Marauders would carry their offensive momentum through the second quarter behind Ryleigh Wacha, who finished the first half with a commanding 18 points. UMary led Upper Iowa at the half 46-29, shooting 18-30 (60%) from the field while hitting 5 of 10 three-pointers.

While shooting slightly cooled off in the third quarter, the Marauders made the most of the Peacocks foul troubles, shooting 11-12 from the charity stripe. UMary hindered the Peacocks offense for the final ten minutes, holding them to just 2-13 from the field on the way to a definitive 80-56 win at home.

UMary outshot Upper Iowa 47.4% to 33.3% and also edged them at the boards with 38 rebounds to 36. While the Marauders offense eclipsed 80 points for the fourth time this season, their defense also played a big factor combining for 14 steals for five blocks.
