Unbeaten string grows to 9 as Marauders play Warriors to scoreless draw

WINONA, MN – In a meeting between two of the top offenses and defenses in the Northern Sun, it was the defenses that dominated in a scoreless draw between visiting University of Mary and Winona State University. UMary remains unbeaten this season through nine games.
 
Off to their best start of the program's NCAA era, the Marauders are 6-0-3 overall and 3-0-3 in the NSIC. UMary has 12 points in conference play and now sits 3rd in league standings. Winona State is 4-2-3 and 2-1-3 in the NSIC.
 
The Marauders entered the game 2nd in the NSIC in both goals scored and allowed. The Warriors were in the top five of both categories.
 
In a fairly even first half statistically, the Marauders held an edge a 7-6 edge in shots and had the lone two corner kicks while the Warriors had a 3-1 advantage in shots on frame with neither team finding the net.
 
The Marauders, ranked 4th in regional rankings and receiving votes in the national poll, dominated the second half stats. UMary outshot Winona State 8-1 and placed the only three shots on frame of the half. The Warriors were whistled for seven of the nine fouls.
 
For the game the Marauders finished with the advantage in shots (15-7) and shots on frame (4-3).
 
Madisyn Waltman accumulated three saves in posting the 29th clean sheet of her career, a UMary record.
 
The Marauders continue their 4-game road swing with a stop at MSU Moorhead on Friday, Sept. 30,  before visiting Northern State University on Sunday, Oct. 2.
