BISMARCK, ND – The McDowell Activity Center was lively and
Nehkyah Ellis looked strong earning ND Petroleum Foundation Player of the Game honors as the University of Mary volleyball team fell in three sets to Upper Iowa University (19-25, 11-25, 10-25).
The Marauders started strong against the Peacocks, gaining the first three points and jumping out to a 14-10 lead halfway through the first set. Upper Iowa would not gain their first lead until after the game was knotted up at 18 and the Peacocks kept their momentum rolling, finishing the rest of the set on an 8-1 run over the Marauders and winning it 25-19.
Upper Iowa would put its reputable volleyball prowess on full display beginning in the second set. Behind the strong attack of Kylie Oldenburger, Maggie Streightiff, and Zoe Semelroth, the Peacocks jumped out to a 16-4 lead. The Marauders gained some footing in set two before eventually falling 25-11.
The Marauders would trade off the lead with the Peacocks early in the third set. However, Upper Iowa would regain momentum and pull away after the 13-7 mark, ending the set and the match with a 25-10 performance in set three.

Nehkyah Ellis led the way for the Marauders attack with 10 kills, while also contributing 7 digs and 1 block.
Maddy Freed would help pace the Marauders dishing out 18 assists.
Kaia Sueker finished with 15 total digs from the back row.
Emily Torborg recorded 4 kills, 5 digs, and an ace serve.
Reyna Isenbart had 3 kills, 6 digs, and a block.
Alexandria Harper had 2 kills and 2 blocks.

The Marauders will look to bounce back with a quick turnaround tomorrow in the MAC. The University of Mary volleyball team (2-11, 1-4 NSIC) will host Winona State University (5-7, 1-4 NSIC) Saturday at 1 pm for one more match in the homestand. UMary volleyball is hosting a "Fight the Stigma" theme for mental health awareness with posters throughout the stands and green ribbons available at admission to support mental wellness.
