Three Shoen Shots earn Marauders a spilt with Golden Bears

BISMARCK, ND – Continuing his power display from the last week, Derek Shoen blasted three more home runs for the University of Mary, including a pair in the Marauders 11-6 game two victory over visiting Concordia-St. Paul. The Golden Bears captured the opener 9-6.

In his last six games, Shoen has connected for seven home runs, including a grand slam in the Marauders win over the Golden Bears. The All-Northern Sun first baseman now has 10 on the season. In 2021 Shoen hit 11 home runs to tie the Marauders NCAA era record. The all-time UMary mark is 12 by Steve Laasko in 1998. His 21 career home runs ranks 5th.

GAME ONE | Concordia-St. Paul 9 University of Mary 6
A wild game featuring four lead changes and a tie got away from the Marauders in the sixth inning as the Golden Bears captured a 9-6 road win. Despite managing just four hits in the game, Concordia-St. Paul scored three runs in three different innings.

UMary scored first when a Noah Hull single scored Calvin James in the bottom of the first inning. Concordia-St. Paul followed with three runs in the second to claim a 3-1 lead. The Marauders wasted no time to climb back in front, plating three runs in the bottom of the second on a CSP throwing error and singles by Michael Polson and James.

The Golden Bears struck for another three runs in the fourth but a Derek Shoen 2-run shot in the bottom of the inning knotted the game at 6-6. Following a scoreless fifth, CSP regained control of the game in the sixth.

PIVOT POINT
A pair of walks preceded a 2-out 2-run pinch hit double by Kal Bromer in the 6th inning that broke the 6-6 tie. After another walk, Bryce Nelson singled to right to score Christopher with an insurance run for the Golden Bears.

Krece Papierski doubled for the Marauders in the bottom of the sixth but he was the only baserunner the Marauders managed in their final two at bats.
