Perez continues strong freshman season for Marauders in losses to Warriors

WINONA, MN – Saria Perez continued her outstanding freshman season for the University of Mary, hitting a home run and scoring the Marauders lone runs of the day against a strong Winona State University club that swept UMary in the Northern Sun doubleheader 7-2 and 14-0.

Saria Perez hit a solo home run for the Marauders in the fourth inning and scored her second run of the day in the seventh on a double by Rachael Laetsch. Unfortunately the Marauders were unable to match the power of Winona State. The Warriors cracked four home runs to one for UMary and outhit the Marauders overall 10-3.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Warriors scored four runs in the first inning to take early control of the game. Abbie Hlas hit a one-out homer and Teaghen Amwoza later followed with a 3-run home run. The fast start provided more than enough run support for Liz Pautz, who struck out 15 Marauders in a 7-inning complete game.

Saria Perez led off the second inning with a single to center, the only baserunner in the game for UMary. It was the only mistake in four innings of work for Abby Smith, who retired 12 of the 13 hitters she faced in the game.
 
PIVOT POINT
After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors seized control of the game with six runs in the second inning. Carly Engelhardt provided the big blow when she cracked a 3-run home run. WSU tacked on two more runs in the third before scoring another half-dozen runs in the fourth.
