FAYETTE, IA – The University of Mary softball team (5-29, 3-11 Northern Sun) wrapped up their six-game road trip, falling in an exciting doubleheader to Upper Iowa University (20-21, 11-10 NSIC).

GAME 1 University of Mary 4 Upper Iowa University 14 (F/5)
UMary grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Haley Berube hit a single through the right side and brought home Eryn De Jonge. UIU responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and four runs in the second inning.

Berube cut UIU's lead to 6-2 after she hit a sac fly to right field, scoring Avery Dome. The Peacocks offense continued to pile on the runs as they scored three runs in the fourth inning.

The Marauders added two runs in the top of the fifth inning as Berube doubled to center field, which brought home Dome and De Jonge. UIU finished the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after the Peacocks scored five runs to win 14-4.

A run in the first and second innings saw UIU take a 2-0 lead. UMary cut the Peacock's lead in half after Eryn De Jonge singled down the left-field line to bring home Natasha Stubbs. The Peacocks took a 6-1 in the fifth inning after scoring five runs.

The Marauders attempted to rally back after Rachel Laetsch hit a two-run homer to right field in the sixth inning, scoring Haley Berube. UMary then scored two more runs in the seventh inning as De Jonge doubled to right-center, which brought Avery Dome and Erin Murphy around to score.

Devyn Ritz stepped up to the plate with De Jonge on second base but would line out to right field to end the game and secure a 6-5 win for UIU.
