UMary drops home-opener to MSU to kick off conference play

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team (2-20, 0-2 Northern Sun) dropped their first NSIC games of the season, losing a doubleheader to Minot State University (21-5, 2-0 NSIC) in the Marauders home opener.

MSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. UMary responded in the third inning after Sariah Perez doubled to right field, scoring Kaylee Kannegiesser and Natasha Stubbs.

The Beavers regained control of the game in the sixth inning, taking a 3-2 lead. MSU added on three more runs in the seventh, which secured a 6-2 victory for the Beavers.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

·       Kaylee Kannegiesser went 1-for-3 with one walk and one run scored.

·       Haley Berube went 1-for-3.

·       Devyn Ritz went 1-for-3.

·       Emari Evans pitched all seven innings and allowed six runs while striking out three batters.

STAT OF THE GAME

Sariah Perez went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

MSU broke the game open by scoring three runs in the first inning. The Beavers would add to their lead by scoring a run in the third and sixth innings. UMary had five hits but failed to bring anyone home as the Marauders fell 5-0 to MSU.

·       Haley Berube went 1-for-3 with one double.

·       Sariah Perez went 1-for-3.

UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN GAMES CANCELED

The Marauders games against the University of Jamestown on Wednesday, March 30, were canceled and will not be made up.
