Barnhardt named NSIC Wrestling Rookie of the Year

BURNSVILLE, MN – Coming off an outstanding freshman campaign, University of Mary wrestler Reece Barnhardt was named NSIC Wrestling Rookie of the Year for the 2021-22 season. Barnhardt is the second UMary wrestler to earn this honor, joining Phillip Springsteen.

Barnhardt earned All-American honors after taking fourth place at the NCAA Division II Championships in the 133-pound weight class. The Bismarck, ND, native recorded the highest finish at Nationals that any Marauder athlete has had in the Division II era.

Barnhardt qualified for the NCAA Championships after finishing runner-up in the NCAA Division II Super Region V Championship. The freshman had a 24-10 record overall and went 21-6 against NCAA Division II competition.

Barnhardt helped earn UMary a sixth-place finish in the Midwest Classic after the Bismarck, ND, native took second in the tournament.
