BEMIDJI, MN –
Lexie Schneider put up a monster performance for the University of Mary women's basketball team (12-14, 6-11 Northern Sun) as UMary fell short against Bemidji State University (13-8, 11-6 NSIC) 66-63.
BSU took an early 19-15 lead after the first quarter concluded. The Marauders would rally back in the second quarter, outscoring the Beavers 19-12 and taking a 34-31 lead going into halftime. UMary shot 66.67% from the field in the second quarter, while BSU shot 38.46%.
The Beavers would outscore the Marauders 23-16 and took a 54-50 lead heading into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was a close and competitive contest that saw the Marauders trailing the Beavers by three points with 4.2 seconds left in the game. UMary failed to get a shot off before the time expired, securing a BSU 66-63 win.
Lexie Schneider put up her second straight double-double, scoring 35 points while grabbing 13 rebounds and blocking three shots. Schneider shot 15-of-22 from the field and went 5-of-6 from the free-
throw line.
Carly Kottsick scored five points and dished out four assists while securing three rebounds.
Ryleigh Wacha grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots.
The Marauders won the rebounding battle over the Beavers 35-28. UMary would give the ball away 15 times while BSU had 11 turnovers.
The Marauders shot 45% from the field, shooting 21.4% from behind the arc while going 6-of-9 from the free-throw line. The Beavers shot 47.2% from the field, shooting 20% from three while going 13-of-15 from the charity stripe.
