MINOT, ND – Despite collecting a total of 28 hits in their doubleheader, The University of Mary softball team was defeated in both games. UMary lost a close contest to Valley City State University 4-3. The Marauders would then attempt a spectacular comeback over the University of Minnesota Crookston but would fall short, losing 14-8.
GAME 1 Valley City State University 4 University of Mary 3
Kaylee Kannegiesser opened the scoring for UMary in the first inning as she doubled to left field, bringing home Eryn De Jonge.
In the top of the third inning, Kennedy Cowart tripled to left field, scoring Kannegiesser. Cowart would come home to score after Saria Perez doubled to left field which gave the Marauders a 3-0 lead.
The Vikings would get on the board in the bottom of the third inning after scoring on a fielder's choice.
PIVOT POINT
VSCU would grab three runs in the fifth inning, giving the Vikings a 4-3 lead. The Marauders would fail to rally back and would fall 4-3 to VSCU.

UMC busted the game open in the second inning, scoring six runs. The Golden Eagles would add three more runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Eryn De Jonge put the Marauders on the board in the bottom of the fifth after she singled to left field, scoring Erin Murphy. Kaylee Kannegiesser would then hit her own single to left field which brought home Brooke De Jonge.
UMC extended their lead to 14-2 after scoring five runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Marauders would not give up and would attempt a comeback in the bottom of the sixth.
Brooke McClure singled to right field which saw Devyn Ritz and Saria Perez come around to score. Eryn De Jonge then singled to right field, scoring Avery Dome. Kannegiesser followed right after with a double to right field which brought home Erin Murphy. Kennedy Cowart would cut the lead to 14-8 after hitting a two-run double to center, scoring Kannegiesser and De Jonge.
The Marauders had the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning but failed to score, securing a 14-8 Golden Eagles win.
