MINOT, ND – The University of Mary softball team (0-1) fell 10-5 in their season opener to Minot State University (1-0).

MSU would grab an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. UMary would respond in the second inning as Madison Wszolek scored on a throwing error by the catcher after Erin Murphy stole second. The Marauders would take a 2-1 lead after Murphy would steal home.

The Beavers responded with two runs in the third inning, giving MSU a 4-3 lead. Haley Berube would put UMary back in the lead in the top of the fourth as she would hit a two-run triple, scoring Wszolek and Kaylee Kannegiesser.

MSU took control of the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs. The Beavers would tack on another run in the fifth inning.

Erin Murphy would cut the lead to 8-5 in the top of the sixth after she hit an RBI single to left field, bringing home Berube. The Beavers would close the game out with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving MSU a 10-5 win.

UMary competes in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 5, beginning with Valley City State University at 9 am. The Marauders then take on the University of Minnesota Crookston at 4:30 pm.
