UMary suffers first defeat of the year, losing 6-1 to #16 AU

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Despite Doaa Farouk Mohamed remaining undefeated in singles competition, The University of Mary tennis team (5-1, 5-1 Northern Sun) suffered their first defeat of the season. UMary fell 6-1 to #16 Augustana University (9-0, 6-0 NSIC).

"We played a tough team today. My athletes came to play and fought for every point, but we came up short," UMary head coach Vida Saliendra said.

The Marauders lost their three doubles matches. Chloe Chong and Ilona Freitag were defeated number one doubles 6-3. Doaa Farouk Mohamed and Emily Needham fell in number two doubles 7-6. Heidi Jacobson and Callie McDonald came up short in number three doubles, losing 6-1.

In number one singles, Chong lost 6-3, 6-1 to Valeriya Monko.

Freitag fell to Florentia Hadjigeorgiou in number two singles 6-3, 6-1.

Mohamed defeated Laura Arce Vieyra in number three single 6-2, 6-1 to remain undefeated in singles action.

Needham came up short in number four singles to Aleksandra Kistanova 6-4, 6-0.

Jacobson was defeated by Gabriela Jancikova in number five singles 6-1, 6-0.

McDonald concluded the match for UMary as she fell in number six singles to Emily Granson 6-1, 6-2.
