TOPEKA, KS – The University of Mary softball team's (0-9) offense struggled on the first day of the Washburn Invite. UMary lost its first game 5-0 to Newman University (3-5) and then fell 1-0 in a close game to Washburn University (9-6).

NU opened the scoring with a two-run first inning. The Jets continued their momentum by scoring one run in the fifth inning and two in the seventh. The Marauders offense struggled as they managed to get only two hits for the game. Nicole Eckhardt and Hannah Chambers combined to pitch seven innings and allowed three earned runs.

Despite a spectacular performance from Emari Evans, The Marauders were unable to give her any help in the scoring department. The deciding moment came in the third inning, where a single to right field drove in the winning and only run for WU.
