BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's basketball team (14-15, 7-12 Northern Sun) pulled off a historic win as they defeated the University of Sioux Falls (16-12, 11-9 NSIC) 62-55 to advance to the quarterfinals of the NSIC Championships. This is the first time that UMary has won a road NSIC playoff game in the history of the program.
The Marauders got off to a slow start in the first quarter but came back strong to only trail 16-12 to the Cougars. UMary caught fire in the second quarter and jumped out to a 35-23 lead going into halftime. UMary went on a 15-0 run, holding USF to 18.8% shooting from the field.
The Marauders maintained their play in the third quarter, leading 50-39 lead heading into the final quarter. The Cougars cut UMary's lead to six points in the fourth quarter. The Marauders were able to knock down their free throws and close the game out, winning 62-55.
Megan Voit, who leads the NSIC in three-pointers made, exploded for 23 points and 12 rebounds. The junior shot 7-of-11 from behind the arc and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.
Macy Williams contributed 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.
Ryleigh Wacha scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Lexie Schneider had seven points and seven rebounds.
The Marauders dominated on the glass as they outrebounded the Cougars 45-34. UMary committed 19 turnovers, while USF had seven.
The Marauders shot 38.8% from the field, shooting 39.1% from behind the arc while going 15-of-18 from the charity stripe. The Cougars shot 33.9% from the field, shooting 20% from three while going 11-of-17 from the free-throw line.

The Marauders stay in Sioux Falls, SD, to compete in the quarterfinals of the NSIC tournament against the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, February 27, at 7 pm.
