FARGO, ND – Led by a big performance from
Doaa Farouk Mohamed, the University of Mary tennis team rolled over St. Cloud State University 5-2 to remained undefeated on the season.
Farouk Mohamed didn't allow her opponents to score a point on the day, putting the clamps on her foes in both doubles and singles.
The Cairo, Egypt, native teamed with fellow freshman
Emily Needham to post a 6-0 win in #2 doubles over Shanna Kinny and Arisma Kashima.
Farouk Mohammed then claimed a straight set shutout of Johana Brower 6-0, 6-0 in #3 singles.
"Our top four singles were very consistent and focused today," said Marauders head coach
Vida Saliendra. "Overall everyone had solid performances throughout the lineup."
The Marauders opened the day with a sweep in doubles play to earn a team point.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag teamed for a 7-6 win at #1 doubles with
Heidi Jacobson and
Callie McDonald claiming a 6-4 win at #3 doubles.
UMary kept up its strong start into singles play, winning the top four matches.
Chong was victorious in #1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Arisa Kashima.
Playing #2 singles, Freitag eased past Maria Paz Aoki 6-3, 6-1.
Needham ensured the Marauders win with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at #4 singles over Kinny.
The Marauders improve to 3-0 on the season overall and in Northern Sun play. The Huskies are 2-3.
UMary concludes the weekend with a match Sunday, February 20, against the University of Minnesota Duluth at 9 am in Fargo, ND.
