BISMARCK, ND – Grinding out win after win, the 8
th ranked University of Mary wrestling team captured eight out of ten matches on the way to a 25-6 victory over Highway 83 rival Minot State University. Every match went the distance with a couple needing a little extra time to decide the victor.
All-American
Braydon Huber, ranked 9
th in the nation at 165, started the Marauders day off on a strong note as he claimed a decisive 8-2 decision over Brendan Barnes. It was the first of four straight wins for UMary. #6
Max Bruss followed with a 6-2 win at 174 before
Wyatt Lidberg used three takedowns to claim an 8-3 decision at 184.
Matthew Kaylor, ranked 11
th by the National Wresting Coaches Association at 197, started and ended his match with takedowns to edge Dustin Swisher 5-2.
Lucas Tweeton suffered a tough loss at 285 with a 2-1 loss in the second overtime on an escape by Minot State's Jake Swirple, ranked 11
th in the country.
In the match of the day,
Jaden Verhagen knocked off Oscar Nellis 7-5 in overtime. Verhagen opened the scoring with a takedown before Nellis, ranked 18
th at 125 in the Open Mat rankings, forced an extra session with a late takedown. Verhagen regained his momentum and claimed a 7-5 sudden victory win over Nellis on a takedown to earn North Dakota Petroleum Dude of the Dual recognition.
All-American
Reece Barnhardt rallied from an 8-4 deficit to claim an 11-9 win at 133 over James Davis. Training 8-5 entering the third period, the 11
th ranked Barnhardt took Davis down twice in the period to claim the victory.
Laken Boese clinched the victory for the Marauders with a dominant 12-2 win by major decision over Ethan Wonser at 141. Boese rolled up eight points in the first period – including four on a near fall – to pick up the Marauders only bonus point win of the day.

Anthony Velazquez closed UMary's impressive effort on the day with a 6-0 win at 157.
In bonus match action,
Lincoln Turman pinned Isaac Ortega in 61 seconds.
The Marauders improve to 4-0 on the season in duals, including a 3-0 mark against the non-NCAA Division I wrestling programs in the state.
UMary and Minot State will meet again on January 22 in Minot, ND, in a Northern Sun dual. The winner of the conference meeting also will claim the barrel trophy,
UMary next takes on the challenge of the 43
rd Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, IN, on Saturday and Sunday, December 17-18, the Marauders last action before taking a break for Christmas.
