BISMARCK, ND – In their final tune-up before the start of the regular season, the University of Mary dominated the middle two frames on the way to an 84-55 victory in an exhibition game against visiting College of St. Scholastica.
After both teams combined for 20 points in the first quarter, the Marauders scored 25 points in the second quarter and 29 in the third to take control of the contests against the NCAA Division III Saints.
Five players reached double figures for the Marauders.
Madison James led UMary with 14 points in just five minutes of play as the freshman drained four treys in five chances at the end of the game.
Reese Wishart scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds as she sparked the Marauders run in the second quarter.
Megan Zander also had 13 points and added six rebounds.
Megan Voit hit three treys and made four steals on the way to 11 points.
Moriku Hakim registered 12 points and six rebounds, making 8-of-11 free throws.
Ryleigh Wacha added eight rebounds for UMary and
Carly Kottsick had eight assists.
Eleven Marauders scored in the game.
Miranda Broberg led all players with 28 points for the Saints.
The College of St. Scholastica is coached by Jason Schmitz. A UMary graduate, Schmitz was an assistant coach for the Marauders and head coach
Rick Neumann.
The Marauders open the regular season at home on Friday and Saturday, November 11-12, as UMary hosts the Central Region Challenge. The Marauders face the University of Central Oklahoma on Friday and Northeastern State University on Saturday. Game time both days is 5:30 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
The University of Mary is excited to host the 2022 Central Region Challenge on Friday and Saturday, November 11-12, featuring school's from all three conferences that comprise the NCAA Central Region. Host UMary represents the Northern Sun, the University of Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State University are members of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) and Northwestern Oklahoma State University is from the Great America Conference (GAC).
Both the men's and women's teams from each of the four schools will play two games apiece.
