WAYNE, NE – The start of championship season brought out the best effort of the year for
Guillermo Fregoso. The University of Mary sophomore led a Marauders effort that produced three all-conference performers and a fourth place team finish at the 2022 Northern Sun men's cross country championships.
After placing second or third all season for the Marauders, today Fregoso led the pack for UMary. The native of Twin Falls, ID, covered the 8,000 meter Wayne Golf Course trail in at time of 25:30.50 to place eighth overall. Fregoso earned 1
st team All-NSIC honors for the first time.
Dawson Strom and
Robert White both earned second team All-Northern Sun honors as both placed in the top 14. This is the third time earning All-NSIC honors for Strom while White was recognized for the first time. It is the second straight season three Marauders picked up all-league recognition.
Strom finished 11
th overall, traversing the course in just 25:36.16. Close behind was White, who crossed the finish line in 25:39.66 to place 14th.
Caleb Yokom claimed 34
th overall with a mark of 26:32.77. Rounding out the scoring for UMary was
Owen Jones (26:41.82), who placed 41
st overall.
The Marauders compiled a team score of 105 in a close race for second. Augustana won the team title with 18 points, followed by Minnesota State (94), Sioux Falls (94), UMary, Minnesota Duluth (134), Minot State (164), Northern State (222), MSU Moorhead (223), Wayne State (236), Winona State (239), Concordia-St. Paul (241), Minnesota Crookston (335), Upper Iowa (383) and Southwest Minnesota State (444).
UMary next competes at the NCAA Central Regional meet on Saturday, November 19, in Joplin, MO.
