MANDAN, ND – Another tremendous game in goal for
Kyle Hayden combined with a pair of first period goals led the University of Mary to a 3-0 win over the University of Oregon.
The two-time defending American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 national champions and the country's 2
nd ranked Marauders improve to 17-2-1 on the season. Oregon, an ACHA M1 squad coached by former Marauders player Kyler Moore, is 3-7. This was the first meeting between the two programs since Oregon bumped up to ACHA M1 and the second meeting overall.
Hayden earned his ninth shutout of the season, holding the Ducks at bay by turning away all 29 shots he faced in the game. The defending ACHA M2 Player of the Year improved his season record to 12-0-1. In 13 games he has allowed just seven goals.
The Marauders scored the only goal they would need midway through the opening period.
Teddy Lillico fired a long shot towards the net from along the right boards.
Derek Dropik, parked in front of the Ducks goal, redirected the shot past Oregon goalie Henry Bradford at 9:38 for the winning goal.
Just over three minutes later the Marauders doubled their advantage when
Jack Dapron cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net, sending UMary into the first intermission leading 2-0.
With Hayden and Bradford taking center stage in a scoreless second period, the Marauders closed out the scoring in the third on an
Isaiah Thomas goal just 56 seconds into the final stanza.
Johnny Witzke had the lone helper on the goal for his second assist in the game.
Bradford finished with 38 saves for Oregon.
The Marauders return to action with a home and home series with ACMA M1 Minot State University on December 2-3. The series opens on a Friday at Minot before the two teams come back to Mandan on Saturday, December 3.
