JAMESTOWN, ND – An impressive all-around effort that featured three runners in the top five carried the University of Mary to the team title at the Jimmie Invitational cross country meet in the Marauders strongest performance of the season.
The Marauders posted a team total of 33 points racing at on the 8k Parkhurst Cross Country Course in Jamestown, ND. Fellow Northern Sun members claimed the next three slots in the eight-team meet. Minot State placed second with 43 points, followed by MSU Moorhead (83) and Northern State (86). It was the first time this season in three races the Marauders had surpassed the Beavers.
"These men showed up like a team today and they made it happen," said UMary head coach
Chris Lessard. "The success is all theirs! We have some work to do and a lot to prove, but this was an incredible step forward! Onto the next!"
Dawson Strom,
Guillermo Fregoso and
Robert White finished in a pack at 3-4-5. Strom, who has led the Marauders in all three outings this season, crossed the finish line in 25:13.1.
Right behind in fourth was Fregoso, clocking in at 25:23.4. White claimed 5
th in the field of 90 runners with a time of 25:35.1.
In his best performance of the season,
Caleb Yokom finished in 25:53.7 to grab 8
th.
Rounding out the scoring for the Marauders was
Isaac Anderson. The sophomore placed 13
th in 26:47.4.
UMary next competes at home in the Mystics/Marauders Invitational on October 21 at McDowell Dam outside Bismarck, ND.
