BOZEMAN, MT – A night after their epic 34-game win streak came to a close, the University of Mary hockey team rebounded in impressive fashion with a 3-0 victory over Montana State University. The win earns the Marauders a split of the weekend series with the Bobcats.  
 
The Marauders (15-1 overall) opened the scoring on a beautiful power play goal just 3:42 into the game. Stealing the puck from a Bobcats defender on the left boards and skating behind the net, Tanner Eskro went against the flow with a centering pass through the crease into the slot. With perfect timing, Garrett Freeman slammed home the puck into the left side of the goal for an early 1-0 UMary lead.
 
Jaren Hugelen doubled the Marauders lead at 12:50 of the first period. Skating just outside the crease, Hugelen tipped in a shot from Liam Massey that was unleashed from just inside the top of the left circle. 
 
The Marauders sealed the win early in the third period. Leading a 3-on-2 breakaway, Seth Cushing sailed down the left boards before centering the puck to the trailing Derek Dropik atop the slot. Scoring a goal for the second straight night, Dropik fired a laser into the upper left corner of the goal.
 
Kyle Hayden easily ensured that the three goals were more than enough. The reigning player of the year completed his seventh shutout of the season in ten starts, stopping all 25 shots that he faced. Hayden was the busiest in the final period, making 12 stops in the third after making 13 combined stops the first two stanzas.
 
Jorgen Johnson made 24 saves in the game for MSU.
 
UMary finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play while keeping MSU off the scoreboard in three chances with a man advantage.
 
The Marauders next face Williston State College on Saturday, November 5, in a neutral site game in Dickinson, ND. The event is hosted by UMary.
