Freed, Binagi key Marauders road win at Minot State, sweep season series with Beavers

MINOT, ND – The MSU Dome was the site of the second meeting between in-state rivals Minot State University and the University of Mary volleyball team on Tuesday night. Maddy Freed paced a balanced Marauders attack led by a career night for Robi Binagi as the Marauders picked up their second victory over the Beavers this season in four sets (25-23, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19).

Searching for their first win, the Beavers were quick out of the gates in the first set of the night gaining an early advantage over the Marauders. Minot State (0-23, 0-16 NSIC) held a small lead until UMary (4-20, 3-13 NSIC) went on an 8-1 run late in the set to take a 24-20 lead with a set-point opportunity. The Beavers stayed alive by gaining the next three points before a kill from Nehkyah Ellis put a definitive end to set one 25-23 in favor of the Marauders.

Set two had back-and-forth action early until the Marauders began to pull away nearly halfway through. Behind a balanced attack coupled with costly Beaver errors, the Marauders clinched their second straight set with a 25-17 score.

Minot State managed to gain separation early in set three and avoided a second sweep loss to UMary on the season by rolling to a 25-16 set victory. However, UMary would quickly flush set three and control the pace of set four, onward to a 25-19 set win and match victory. The Marauders outhit the Beavers 0.168 to 0.128 and Minot State posted 27 attack errors on the night.
