Marauders register 3rd straight Showcase shutout in 4-0 victory over Flames, extending win streak to 25

BLAINE, MN – In a meeting between two of the top programs in American College Hockey Association Men's Division 2, 2-time defending national champion University of Mary captured a decisive 4-0 victory over Liberty University. The victory is the 25th straight for the Marauders.
 
The Marauders remain perfect on the season through five games, including three straight shutout wins at the University of Mary showcase over the weekend.
 
The UMary 25 game win streak dates back to Dec, 8, 2021.
 
Reigning ACHA M2 Player of the Year Kyle Hayden picked up his second shutout of the weekend after blanking Marian University on Friday. Hayden made 23 saves in the game, including ten in the first period. He helped the Marauders keep the Flames without a goal on five power play opportunities.
 
UMary struck early when Cyril Nagurski found the net just 1:18 into the game with Tucker Kruse and Teddy Lillico assisting on the goal.
 
The Marauders tallied early and late in the second. Andrew Huber scored 100 seconds into the middle stanza and Derek Dropik increased the UMary lead to 3-0 with just 19 seconds left before the second intermission.
 
Seth Cushing finished the scoring with a shorthanded goal with 2:10 remaining in the game to cement the victory. Cushing finished the game with a goal and an assist.
 
UMary was whistled for six penalties for 12 minutes. Liberty committed three penalties for six minutes.
 
The Marauders, 0-for-3 on the power play, outshot the Flames 33-23.
 
The victory is the 3rd straight win for the Marauders over the Flames. The two teams will play again on Liberty's home ice October 14-15. The last loss to an ACHA D2 team was to the Flames on October 15, 2021.
 
UMary returns home to host the University of Minnesota in a two-game set on Saturday and Sunday, October 8-9.
