BLAINE, MN – A perfect night in net by Conan Hayton and shootout goals by Alex Flicek and Johnny Witzke extended the University of Mary winning streak to 24 games as the Marauders posted a 1-0 win over the University of Minnesota.
 
Competing on day two of the University of Minnesota Showcase against the host, the Marauders and the Gophers were deadlocked through three periods and overtime with neither team able to solve Hayton and Matthew Bryant, the Minnesota netminder.
 
Minnesota came out hot in the first period, outshooting UMary 12-6. The Marauders reversed course in the second period with an 11-8 edge in shots. The Marauders kept up the heat in the third, firing 13 shots on net to nine for the Gophers.
 
Both teams had chances to score in overtime but Hayton made a pair of saves while Bryant stopped all four shots by the Marauders.
 
Forced to turn to penalty shots, All-Americans Flicek and Witzke delivered for UMary while Hayton continued to deny the Gophers attempts to find the net.
 
Hayton finished the shutout win with 31 saves in the game. Bryant posted 34 saves.
 
Both teams were whistled for just two penalties each for four penalty minutes and both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.
 
The Marauders, who improve to 4-0 on the season while extending their unbeaten streak to 24 games, will host the Gophers in a pair of home games next weekend.
 
Two-time defending ACHA Men's Division 2 National Champion UMary wraps up the Showcase on Sunday, October 2, with a 12 noon meeting against Liberty University.
