MARSHALL, MN – Despite a strong scoring performance from
Lexie Schneider, the University of Mary women's basketball team (9-9, 3-6 Northern Sun) was defeated by Southwest Minnesota State University (8-5, 5-4 NSIC) 70-57.
The first quarter saw SMSU grab an early 14-8 lead over UMary. The Mustangs would continue their good play in the second quarter, extending their lead to 35-24.
The Marauders fell behind as many as 20 points in the third quarter but would rally back and cut SMSU's lead to 11 going into the final quarter. UMary would get the deficit to single digits but failed to capitalize as the Mustangs would win 70-57.
Lexie Schneider had another outstanding game as the senior scored 21 points while coming down with eight rebounds.
Megan Voit would contribute nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from behind the arc while also grabbing seven rebounds.
Megan Zander had six points and seven rebounds.
The Marauders struggled on the boards as they were outrebounded by the Mustangs 41-33. Both teams had 11 turnovers.
The Marauders shot 30.6% from the field, shooting 42.1% three and went 11-of-17 from the charity stripe. The Mustangs shot 34.9% from the field, shooting 33.3% from behind the arc while going 17-of-18 from the free-throw line.
