BISMARCK, ND – Missing two starters, the shorthanded University of Mary women's basketball team (10-9, 4-6 Northern Sun) showed grit and determination in their 72-60 win over Wayne State College (7-7, 4-6 NSIC). UMary remains undefeated at home, improving to 7-0 at the McDowell Activity Center.
The Marauders got off to a hot start in the first quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 19-9. UMary shot 47.06% from the field in the quarter while holding WSC to 28.57% shooting. The second quarter was more competitive as the Marauders would go into halftime with a 37-28 lead.
UMary would take an 11-point lead going into the fourth quarter after outscoring the Wildcats 24-22. The Marauders would close out the game strong and take home the 72-60 victory over WSC.
Macy Williams led the team in scoring with 15 points while also contributing five rebounds and five assists.
Reese Wishart played a huge role for UMary off the bench as she would score a career-high 14 points, shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the field.
Carly Kottsick also earned a career-high in scoring with 11 points. Kottsick would go on to grab seven rebounds while dishing out three assists.
Addison Rozell posted a double-double in her first start of the season, scoring 11 points and coming down with 10 rebounds.
The Marauders won the rebounding battle as they outrebounded the Wildcats 42-32. Turnovers were an issue for both teams, with UMary having 17 while WSC had 14.
The Marauders shot 45.5% from the field, shooting 34.8% behind the arc and went 14-of-20 from the free-throw line. The Wildcats shot 34.9% from the field, shooting 31.6% from three while going 10-of-16 from the charity stripe.
