SIOUX FALLS, SD – A tough fourth quarter would prove too much to overcome as the University of Mary women's basketball team (9-8, 3-5 Northern Sun) fell 74-58 to the University of Sioux Falls (10-5, 6-3 NSIC).
UMary's offense got off to a slow start in the first quarter, trailing USF 12-4. The Marauders found more success on offense in the second quarter as they would cut the Cougars lead to 30-24, heading into halftime.
UMary continued their good play in the third quarter, with the Marauders outscoring USF 24-19. UMary would trail the Cougars by one point going into the final quarter. The fourth quarter was difficult for the Marauders as USF outscored UMary by 15 points, winning 74-58.
Lexie Schneider posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and recording 10 rebounds.
Megan Zander scored 12 points on 50% shooting while grabbing eight rebounds.
Macy Williams had a good all-around game recording 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.
Megan Voit scored nine points, knocking down a trio of threes. Cadee Rychman had nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field.
The Marauders lost the rebounding battle to the Cougars 41-33. Both teams struggled with turnovers, with UMary turning it over 16 times compared to USF, who had 14.
The Marauders shot 37.9% from the field, shooting 36.4% three and went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line. The Cougars shot 39.7% from the field, shooting 42.9% from behind the arc while going 15-of-16 from the charity stripe.
