WINONA, MN –The University of Mary women's basketball team (10-13, 4-10 Northern Sun) would lose an exciting back-and-forth contest to Winona State University (10-9, 7-8 NSIC) 68-64.
The game began with both teams exchanging leads as WSU took a 20-18 lead at the end of the quarter. The second quarter was a similar story with the Warriors taking a 39-35 lead over the Marauders
going into halftime.
UMary would gain some momentum in the third quarter, outscoring WSU 15-8 to take a 50-47 lead. The Marauders failed to hold on to their lead as the Warriors would come back and win 68-64.
Lexie Schneider led UMary in scoring with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Megan Voit would reach double-digits in scoring after dropping 11 points and grabbing four rebounds.
UMary had good production off the bench as
Julia Fitterer scored a career-high 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.
Addison Rozell contributed nine points while bringing down four rebounds.
The Marauders fell short in the rebounding battle 31-27 to the Warriors. UMary would commit 15 turnovers while WSU turned the ball over 10 times.
The Marauders shot 49.1% from the field, shooting 28.6% from behind the arc while going 6-of-12 from the free-throw line. The Warriors shot 39.3% from the field, shooting 36% from three while going 11-of-13 from the charity stripe.
