Turnovers trip up Marauders in loss to Mavericks

BISMARCK, ND – Turnovers were costly for the University of Mary women's basketball team (10-12, 4-9 Northern Sun) as they were defeated by visiting Minnesota State University – Mankato (13-4, 9-4) 74-60.

UMary got off to a good start, earning an 18-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. The momentum would shift in the second quarter as MSU outscored the Marauders 21-10 to take a 36-28 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter would see the Mavericks continue their great play, outscoring UMary 24-14 in the quarter. The Marauders would outscore MSU in the final quarter, but UMary's rally fell short.

Lexie Schneider led the team in scoring for the second straight night as she put up 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Ryleigh Wacha posted a double-double for the first time in her collegiate career. Wacha scored 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out four assists.

Macy Williams posted eight points and six boards. Addison Rozell had seven points and five rebounds. Carly Kottsick gave out a season-high five assists.

The Marauders struggled with turnovers, giving out a season-high 27 turnovers while the Mavericks turned it over 16 times. UMary was dominant on the glass, outrebounding MSU 42-33.

The Marauders shot 42.9% from the field, shooting 21.7% from three while going 7-of-11 from the charity stripe. The Golden Bears shot 41.2% from the field, shooting 32.1% from behind the arc while going 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.
