CROOKSTON, MN – Bookend goals by Alexander Horner highlighted another dominant effort by the top-ranked University of Mary hockey team. Seven other Marauders also found the net in a 9-1 UMary road win over 18^th-ranked University of Minnesota Crookston to complete a weekend sweep of the Golden Eagles. The victory also extends the Marauders win streak to an even dozen.
 
Horner opened the Marauders scoring surge early in the first period. Keeping the puck in the UMary offensive zone, defensemen Marshall Tschida fired a shot from just inside of the blue line in front of the home team bench. Standing just in front of the crease, Horner deflected the long blast into the net just 4:09 into the game.
 
The Marauders struck for two more goals in the first period. Kyler Moore doubled the Marauders lead when Seth Cushing found the Colorado native alone high in the slot for a quick shot into the upper corner of the net. Alex Flicek, after scoring twice in Saturday's win over the Golden Eagles, beat the goaltender with just under five minutes left in the period for a 3-0 Marauders lead.
 
Four straight goals in the second period for the Marauders put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles. Johnny Witzke, Drew Lenertz, Zach Garrett and Noah Scordato increased UMary's lead to 7-0 before UMC found the net shortly before the second intermission.
 
Third period goals by Cody Shepard and Horner closed out the scoring.
 
Conan Hayton was strong in net for the Marauders, making 18 saves on a day UMary held another huge advantage in shots (55-19).
 
Horner finished the game with two goals. Shepard posted a goal and two assists. Flicek and Garrett all had a goal and an assist. Huber and Tschida both had a pair of assists.
 
The Marauders, who haven't lost since November, improve to 23-1-2-1 on the season.
 
Next up for UMary is at Williston State College on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 7 pm.
 
SCHEDULE CHANGE
The Marauders series at the University of Providence set for Feb. 12-13 is rescheduled for March 26-27.
