ABERDEEN, SD – The University of Mary women's basketball team was unable to complete the series sweep over Northern State University as the Marauders fell 70-59 to the Wolves.
UMary got off to a good start in the first quarter as the Marauders held a 16-13 lead over NSU. In the second quarter, UMary was able to extend its lead and went into halftime with a 36-32 lead.
In the third quarter, the Wolves would begin to take over the game as the Marauders offense began to struggle. NSU would go into the fourth quarter with a 49-47 lead over UMary. The fourth quarter saw the Marauders continue to struggle from the field as the Wolves would take home the 70-59 victory.
Junior forward Lexie Schneider had her fourth double-double of the season as the reigning Northern Sun North Division Player of the Week had 13 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Sophomore guard Megan Voit was second on the team in scoring as she earned 11 points, hitting three threes.
Freshman forward Ella Grove had a career-high nine points in 13 minutes of action. Senior guard Lauren Rotunda had eight points while contributing four rebounds and four assists.
Freshmen guard Rianna Fillip and junior guard Haley Johnson led the Wolves in scoring with 11 points.
UMary was outrebounded 38-31 by NSU. The Marauders had a season-low nine turnovers as the Wolves had only eight.
The Marauders shot 37.5% from the field, shooting 28% from three and going 10-of-17 from the charity stripe. The Wolves shot 43.1% from the field, shooting 33.3% from behind the arc and going 17-of-23 from the free-throw line.
UMary (3-7, 3-5 in the NSIC) will return home to play Minnesota State University Moorhead on (4-4, 3-3 in the NSIC) on Friday, February 12, at 6:00 pm.
