ABERDEEN, SD – Lauren Rotunda had a season-high 25 points for the University of Mary women's basketball team as the Marauders defeated Northern State University 64-54.
UMary's offense got off to a hot start as they held a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Marauders were able to extend their lead over the Wolves as UMary led 31-22 going into halftime.
The Marauders continued to control the game in the third quarter and increased their lead over the Wolves 53-39. UMary finished the game off in the fourth quarter after hitting all four of their free-throws.
Rotunda led the Marauders with 25 points while contributing five rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Raquel Doll had her career-high in points as she scored 13, going 3-of-6 from three.
Senior guard Macy Williams had 12 points while leading the team in rebounds (6) and assists (7). Williams played 40 minutes in tonight's game while Rotunda played 39 minutes.
Freshmen guard Rianna Fillipi led NSU in scoring with 17 points.
UMary won the turnover battle as the Marauders had 13 turnovers compared to the Wolves who had 14.
The Marauders shot 40.4% from the field, shooting 42.9% from three and going a near-perfect 13-of-14 from the charity stripe. The Wolves shot 37% from the field, shooting 30.4% from behind the arc and going 7-of-10 from the free-throw line.
UMary (3-6, 3-4 in the NSIC) will return to play Northern State University (2-7, 1-6 in the NSIC) on Saturday, February 6, at 4:00 pm.
