MINOT, ND – Visiting University of Mary scored the lone goal of the first half but couldn't match Minot State University's second half output in a 3-1 Marauders loss to the Beavers.
This was the second of eight games scheduled for the Marauders this winter and spring after the pandemic wiped out the fall schedule. It was the first time the Marauders had faced the Beavers in 15 months after the two programs met in the final regular season game of the 2019 season.
In a tightly played first half, UMary's
Yasmina Dokara scored the goal in the 42
nd minute. The sophomore launched a shot off a free kick into the upper left side of the net for her second goal of the Marauders season.
The Beavers responded with a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes of the second half. Melanie Van Walstijn solved the Marauders defense in the 50
th minute. Hannah Mitchell followed with a counter in the 56
th minute to give Minot State its first lead of the game at 2-1. A deep strike by Sophia Lewis in the 83
rd minute sealed the win for the home team.
Dokara finished with three shot attempts in the game with a team-best two on goal. All-Northern Sun forward
Hannah Richter led the team with four shots taken.
Both teams fired ten shots with each placing five on net. In the evenly-played game the Marauders and the Beavers both took three corner kicks. UMary was credited with four shots in the second half with only one on frame. For the Beavers, four of their six second half shots were on net.
UMary, 1-1 overall on the season. returns to the MSU Air-Supported Dome in two weeks to face MSU Billings on Saturday, Feb. 27. Kickoff in the neutral site game with the Yellowjackets is 7:30 pm.
