BISMARCK, ND – Lauren Rotunda had a season-high 30 points in her final home game as a Marauder as the University of Mary women's basketball team lost a close back-and-forth game to Minnesota State University Moorhead 76-75.
The first quarter was tight as neither team could take control of the game with UMary leading 18-17. MSUM took a small lead going into halftime as the Dragons led the Marauders 33-31.
In the third, UMary and MSUM would again have a close quarter as the Marauders trailed the Dragons 55-52. The fourth quarter followed the previous three as neither team could pull away. With the game tied at 75 MSUM's Karlie Motschenbacher split two free throws with 1.3 seconds remaining. UMary had a chance to win the game but a buzzer-beating effort fell short.
Rotunda shined as she had 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting to go along with six rebounds and a season-high two blocks.
Junior forward Lexie Schneider had a double-double, scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Sophomore guard Megan Voit contributed 11 points and four rebounds.
Senior guard Macy Williams dished out a game-high six assists. Freshman guard Zoe Velde had five assists and five rebounds.
The Marauders won the turnover battle as UMary had a season-low eight turnovers compared to nine for the Dragons. UMary outrebounded MSUM 38-36.
The Marauders shot 44.3% from the field, shooting 41.2% from three and going 14-of-21 from the charity stripe. The Dragons shot 48.2% from the field, shooting 38.5% from behind the arc and going 17-of-28 from the free-throw line.
UMary (3-9, 3-7 in the NSIC) will travel to play Minot State University (4-8, 4-6 in the NSIC) in their final games of the season, starting on Friday, February 19, at 6 pm.
