ABERDEEN, SD – After opening the Northern Sun season with two straight wins, the University of Mary men's basketball team suffered their first conference loss of the season 82-49 at Northern State University.
Josh Sipes led the Marauders with 11 points on a day a combination of cold shooting and turnovers doomed UMary.
After a slow start for both teams, the Wolves scored first and led from start to finish. Northern State jumped out to a 27-11 lead before entering intermission with a 35-21 lead.
Sipes knocked down 3-of-4 trey attempts on his way to 11 points. He also added four rebounds.
Twelve Marauders scored in the game.
Jacob Jackson added nine points.
Kai Huntsberry had seven points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Jordan Belka led the Wolves with 21 points. Augustin Reede added 20, dropping six treys in the game.
UMary shot just 29.6% for the game while Northern State connected on 56.1% of its field goal attempts. The Marauders finished 12-of-14 at the line and the Wolves were 6-for-9. NSU edged UMary 34-33 in rebounds. The Marauders committed 22 turnovers to 15 for the Wolves.
The Marauders are 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. The Wolves are 7-4 and 1-2.
The University of Mary men's basketball home game scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 7, against Yellowstone Christian College is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances with the Centurions program. The Marauders next play Dec. 10 at St. Cloud State.
