UMary remains undefeated at home, defeating BSU 70-67

BISMARCK, ND –The University of Mary women's basketball team (7-7, 2-4 Northern Sun) improves to 4-0 at home as UMary took down Bemidji State University (5-5, 3-3 NSIC) 70-67. A great performance from Lexie Schneider and clutch free throws from Megan Zander helped the Marauders take home the victory.

UMary jumped out to a big lead early, with the Marauders defense holding the Beavers to six points in the first quarter. UMary would score 21 points in the quarter, shooting 50% from the field.

BSU would put a dent in the Marauders lead as UMary would go into halftime with a 33-24 lead. The third quarter was back-and-forth, with both teams having good stretches of play. The Marauders would go into the final quarter with a 51-43 lead.

The fourth quarter would see the game tied 62-62 with 2:08 remaining in the game. Two straight layups from Megan Voit would see UMary hold a four-point lead with 1:03 left in the game. BSU would cut the lead to one with just six seconds remaining, but Megan Zander would close out the game by hitting both of her free throws.

Lexie Schneider had an efficient performance as the senior had 18 points and nine rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Macy Williams had 11 points and five assists. Williams is now five points away from reaching 1,000 points for her career.

Megan Voit contributed 11 points and three assists. Megan Zander had nine points, four rebounds and five steals.

The Marauders outrebounded the Beavers 37-32. UMary would lose the turnover battle as the Marauders had 16 turnovers compared to the 15 turnovers BSU had.

The Marauders shot 45.9% from the field, shooting 38.5% from three and went 9-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Beavers shot 45% from the field, shooting 30% from behind the arc while going 7-of-13 from the charity stripe.
