DULUTH, MN – A ferocious second-half comeback was not enough for the University of Mary women's basketball team (6-7, 1-4 Northern Sun) as they fell short on the road 73-67 to the University of Minnesota Duluth (6-3, 4-1 NSIC).
The first quarter was all UMD, with the Bulldogs jumping out to an early 24-13 lead at the end of the quarter. UMD's lead would grow in the second quarter, outscoring UMary 19-14.
The Marauders would come on strong in the third quarter, holding the Bulldogs to nine points. UMary would score 22 points in the quarter as the Marauders would shoot 53.85% from the field. The fourth quarter was exciting, with both teams exchanging leads. UMD would hang on to their lead and win 73-67.
Lexie Schneider had a great all-around game as the senior scored a team-high 21 points while also grabbing nine rebounds.
Megan Voit scored 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting from three. Ryleigh contributed 10 points while earning six boards.
The Marauders lost a close rebounding battle as they were outrebounded by the Bulldogs 33-31. UMary had 15 turnovers compared to the 11 turnovers UMD had.
The Marauders shot 49% from the field, shooting 50% from behind the arc and went 10-of-16 from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs shot 41.7% from the field, shooting 40% from three while going 15-of-20 from the free-throw line.
