BILLINGS, MT – The University of Mary women's basketball team (1-1) earned their first regular-season win as they were victorious over Nova Southeastern University (1-1) 67-62 in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic.
The Marauders held a 20-10 lead at the end of the first quarter after shooting 8-of-15 from the field. NSU would outscore UMary by two points in the second quarter as the Marauders would go into halftime with a 39-31 lead.
In the third quarter, UMary extended their lead to 53-43 after holding the Sharks to 12 points. NSU would rally back and cut the Marauders lead to 64-62 late in the fourth quarter.
UMary was able to close the game out and win 67-62 after clutch free throws from both
Addison Rozell and
Megan Zander.
Macy Williams led the way for the Marauders as she scored a team-high 17 points and dished out five assists.
Addison Rozell had the best game of her collegiate career thus far as the freshman had 13 points, eight rebounds and one block.
Lexie Schneider had 12 points and five rebounds while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Megan Zander led the team in rebounding with 10 while also scoring seven points.
UMary lost the turnover battle to NSU 23-16. The Marauders showed their dominance on the glass, outrebounding the Sharks 45-28.
The Marauders shot 47.2% from the field, shooting 36.4% from behind the arc and going 13-of-18 from the charity stripe. The Sharks shot 34.8% from the field, shooting 27.6% from three while going 8-of-11 from the free-throw line.
The Marauders wrap up the D2CCA Tipoff Classic on Sunday, November 6, as UMary competes against Seton Hill at 9:30 am.
