BILLINGS, MT –
Lexie Schneider had 20 points and nine rebounds as the University of Mary women's basketball team fell 65-59 in their 2021-22 regular-season opener against Kutztown University in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic.
The first quarter was back and forth with both teams exchanging leads. Kutztown would lead 18-17 at the end of the quarter.
The Marauders would grab a 34-28 lead going into halftime as UMary outscored the Golden Bears 17-10 in the second quarter.
Kutztown would tie the game up at the end of the third quarter 49-49 after outscoring UMary 21-15.
The Marauders offense struggled in the fourth quarter as they shot 4-of-16 from the field while going 0-8 from three. The Golden Bears would score 16 points and win the game 65-59.
Lexie Schneider had 10 points, nine rebounds and one block on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
Megan Voit had 16 points while making four three-pointers.
Megan Zander stuffed the stat sheet as she had 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals.
UMary lost the turnover battle to Kutztown 23-16. The Marauders outrebounded the Golden Bears 40-36.
The Marauders shot 36.5% from the field, shooting 27.3% from behind the arc and going 15-of-24 from the free-throw line. The Cobbers shot 37.5% from the field, shooting 35% from three while going 16-of-23 from the charity stripe.
The Marauders compete again in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic on Saturday, November 5, as UMary takes on Nova Southeastern University at 12 pm.
