MINOT, ND – A hot start and a career night from
Megan Voit kept visiting University of Mary close early before Minot State University pulled away for an 85-71 Beavers win over the Marauders on the opening night of Northern Sun action.
Voit knocked down six treys and scored 20 points to equal her career bests to pace the Marauders offense. The sophomore guard was efficient, making 6-of-13 shots behind the arc and 7-of-14 overall. Voit also chipped in three rebounds and two assists.
The Marauders had their best night of the season from deep for both volume and accuracy, hitting 12-of-27 trey attempts.
Cadee Ryckman came off the bench to hit three treys and finished with 11 points.
Megan Zander also hit a pair of treys and finished with 14 points.
Lexie Schneider just missed a double double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Macy Williams added nine points and five assists.
The Marauders (4-4 overall, 0-1 NSIC), who trailed just 22-19 at the end of the 1
st quarter and 48-39 at intermission in a game that featured six ties and eight lead changes, were unable to close any closer than nine points early in the second half to an efficient Beavers (3-5, 1-0) squad. Minot State shot 50.8% from the floor on the night to the Marauders effort of 43.1%. MSU also held a 39-28 edge on the glass.
Anna Counts came off the bench to lead the Beavers with 19 points and nine rebounds. Lucy Chapman added 15 points as five Minot State players cracked double digits.
UMary entered the night with a 7-game win streak against Minot State and a run of nine wins in the last 10 meetings.
The Marauders next host Presentation College in a non-conference game on Saturday, Nov. 27. Game time is 4 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
