Marauders women's basketball rolls past NU 74-52

WICHITA, KS – The University of Mary women's basketball team improved to 3-3 on the season as the Marauders rolled past Newman University (0-2) 74-52.

The first quarter saw was back and forth as UMary would take a 20-19 lead. The Marauders would step up defensively as they held NU to 11 points and took a 39-30 lead into halftime.

UMary's offense exploded for 23 points in the third quarter as the Jets would trail the Marauders 62-44 into the final quarter. The Marauders would close out the fourth quarter and take home the 74-52 victory.

Megan Zander led the team in scoring with 18 points while contributing eight rebounds and three assists. Ryleigh Wacha scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field.

Lexie Schneider led the team in rebounds with 12 and assists with four. Addison Rozell had nine points and five rebounds.

The Marauders won the rebounding battle as they had 42 boards while the Jets had 36. UMary and NU were even in turnovers, with both teams having 14 giveaways.

The Marauders shot 44.6% from the field, shooting 38.5% from three and going 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. The Jets shot 28.8% from the field, shooting 21.1% from behind the arc while going 14-of-16 from the charity stripe.

UMary hosts their first regular-season home game of the year as the Marauders take on Dickinson State University on Saturday, November 20, at 4 pm.
