Kyler Moore and
Alex Flicek both registered two goals and an assist for the University of Mary and
Kyle Hayden led another shutout effort in net as the defending national champions rolled to a 6-0 win over visiting University of St. Thomas. The victory is the 9
th straight for the Marauders and the fourth straight shutout as UMary hasn't allowed a goal for 14 straight periods.
The Marauders, the 2021 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 champions, improve to 14-2 on the season.
Garrett Freeman broke the scoring deadlock at 15:29 of the first period and unleashed a torrent of goals for the Marauders. Less than four minutes later with only 42 seconds remaining before intermission,
Kyler Moore took advantage of a UMary power play opportunity to double the home team's advantage to 2-0.
The Marauders increased their scoring pace in the second period.
Marshall Tschida found the net at the 3:24 mark off an assist from
Alex Flicek. The duo soon swapped roles with Flicek scoring his 8
th goal of the season with Tschida proving the helper. Another late-period goal from Moore, this one with 79 seconds left on the clock, send the Marauders into the second intermission with an insurmountable 5-0 lead over the Tommies.
Flicek closed out the scoring with a power play goal halfway through the third period.
Kyle Hayden was again dominant in net, stopping all 22 shots he faced in the game. It is his third shutout of the season. Sam Haupfear had 31 saves for St. Thomas and Aidan O'Connor had seven.
Freeman and Tschida both had a goal and an assist and Zachery Garrett had two assists.
UMary held a decisive 44-22 edge in shots and converted on 2-of-3 power play opportunities. St. Thomas was 0-for-3 with a man advantage against a Marauders specialty unit that has allowed just three power play goals all season.
The Marauders and the Tommies close out the 2-game weekend series on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 2 pm.
