Marauders to unveil championship banner homecoming weekend in home opener Saturday against the Gophers

BISMARCK ND – The last time the University of Mary played at home it was for a national championship. While the stakes may not be as high this time, the excitement level may come close. The Marauders open their 2021-22 home schedule this weekend during Homecoming '21 when UMary hosts the University of Minnesota. The first order of business?  Unveil the Marauders first championship banner.

After winning three straight games on the road last weekend to open the season, the Marauders drop the puck on the 2021-22 home schedule on Saturday, October 9, against the Golden Gophers. At 6:50 pm, UMary will unveil its 2021 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 Championship banner. The two teams then face off at 7 pm.

The first meetings between UMary and Minnesota wrap up on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2 pm.

All Marauders home games are played on the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan, ND.

The last time the Marauders played at home, UMary defeated Iowa State University 2-0 on April 20, 2021, to win the title.

The Marauders opened their season with a rematch from the 2021 ACHA M2 championship game, except this time it was on the home ice of Iowa State University. Behind a pair of stellar performances from All-American Kyle Hayden, the Marauders won the opener 2-1 on an overtime goal by Kyler Moore and finished the sweep with a 1-0 victory with All-American Johnny Witzke lighting the lamp.

The road trip wrapped up with a third win in three days, a 6-4 victory at the University of St. Thomas. Newcomer Garrett Freeman paced the Marauders attack with a pair of goals and an assist.

Over opening weekend Hayden became the Marauders career leader in shutouts (10) and wins (41). He entered the season tied with former Marauders All-American Lance Knutson for the lead in both categories.

Alex Flicek enters the weekend with 99 career goals, one shy of becoming the first UMary skater to reach the century mark.
