Big night by Garrett, Moore, Flicek leads Marauders to 8-1 win over Bobcats

BOZEMAN, MT – Zach Garrett and Kyler Moore both posted a pair of goals and Alex Flicek became the first University of Mary hockey player to reach 200 career points in the Marauders 8-1 win at Montana State University in American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 action.

Garrett finished the game with two goals and two assists. He tied the Marauders career mark for power play goals when he scored with a man advantage in the 1st period. Moore – who scored both his goals on the power play – also added a pair of assists for a 4-point night.

Flicek registered two assists and hit 200 career points on the opening goal of the night. After a 4-point weekend Flicek owns 201 career points. Garrett is close behind with 195.

The Marauders jumped on top of the Bobcats with a pair of 1st period goals. Seth Cushing cracked the scoreboard first at 5:21 before Garrett found the back of the net at 16:09 on a power play goal to give UMary a 2-0 lead. Montana State scored 40 seconds later on a Chase White goal to close within 2-1 at intermission.

UMary exerted its dominance in the second period with a quartet of counters, three in the span of 98 seconds. Riley Scanlon opened the scoring flurry at 11:17 on an even strength goal, followed by a power play goal by Moore 36 seconds later and an even strength goal by Isaiah Thomas at 12:55. Moore tallied again with 1:52 left in the second to increase the Marauders lead to 6-1.

Two more goals early in the third sealed the game for UMary. Garrett scored just 18 seconds into the final period before Garrett Freeman tacked on the final score of the night at 3:09.

Freeman finished with a goal and two assists. Cushing had a goal and one helper. Andrew Heckaman and Johnny Witzke dished two assists each.

The Marauders held a 38-22 edge in shots. Kyle Hayden stopped 20 shots before ceding the last 9:45 the game to Quinn Ackerman, who stopped both shots he faced.

The victory extends the Marauders win streak to five games, including four straight road game victories. UMary is 10-2 on the season.
