Hayden perfect in net as Marauders chop down Lumberjacks 4-0

MANDAN, ND – Playing at home for the first time in 2021, the University of Mary hockey team used a trio of first period goals to skate past Dakota College of Bottineau 4-0. Four different Marauders scored and Kyle Hayden was perfect in net to earn the shutout.

The Marauders victory extends the team's win streak to seven games, including the last two by shutout. UMary improves to 18-1-2-1 on the season. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for Dakota College (5-4-0-1).

UMary found the net three times in the opening period. All-American Alex Flicek tallied first, tapping home the puck at 6:28 for what proved to be the game-winner. Flicek's 15th goal of the season came off assists by Andrew Heckaman and Zach Garrett.

Less than three minutes later, Jaren Hugelen posted his 10th goal of his freshman season, taking advantage of feeds from Kyler Moore and Seth Cushing.

Marshall Tschida wrapped up the Marauders opening period outburst on the defenseman's sixth counter with less than five minutes remaining before intermission off a feed from Tanner Eskro and Riley Scanlon.

Cushing finished off the Marauders scoring with a goal less than five minutes into the middle period. His team—leading 20th goal was assisted by Johnny Witzke and Heckaman.

UMary then turned the game over to Kyle Hayden and the defense. Hayden held the Lumberjacks at bay, posting 25 saves in the contest to earn his fourth shutout of the season.

Cushing (one goal, one assist) and Heckaman (two assist) were the lone Marauders with multiple points in the game.

The Marauders return to the ice for a two-game set on January 29-30 when the University of Providence visits Mandan.
