UMary Falls To SCSU Despite Three Double-Digit Scorers

BISMARCK, ND –Despite a trio of double-digit scorers, the University of Mary women's basketball again fell to visiting St. Cloud State University 67-55. All four of the Marauders games this season have come against the Huskies, with the last two being non-conference games.
 
The first quarter closes with the Marauders trailing the Huskies by two points at 11-9.  SCSU got rolling in the second quarter and had a 27-19 lead going into halftime.

The Marauders began a comeback in the third quarter as they scored 22 points and only trailed the Huskies by a point going into the fourth quarter, down 42-41. The Marauders tied the game 44-44 with 7:44 left in the game but SCSU outscored UMary 23-11 the rest of the game.

Sophomore guard Megan Voit had 16 points, shooting four of seven from behind the arc. Junior forward Lexie Schneider had 11 points to go along with seven rebounds.

Senior guard Lauren Rotunda scored 15 points. The All-Northern Sun player now has 1,084 points in her career and passed Ali Collins for 18th all-time in UMary scoring history. Rotunda grabbed seven rebounds while contributing five assists.

Tori Wortz led the Huskies with a team-high 21 points. Brehna Evans scored 18 points while getting five assists.

Turnovers were a problem for the Marauders as they had 19 compared to 11 for the Huskies. UMary was outrebounded by SCSU 33-28.

UMary shot 45.7% from the field, making 5-of-11 from three and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. SCSU shot 36.4% from the field, going 5-of-14 from behind the arc and making 22-of-26 from the charity stripe.

The Marauders (1-3, 1-1 in the NSIC) next game takes place at home against Bemidji State University (3-1, 2-0 in the NSIC) on Friday, January 22, at 6 pm.
