Marauders Earn Split With Big Win Over West Virginia Wesleyan

CLERMONT, FL – The University of Mary softball team picked up a split in the sunshine state. The Marauders began the day by falling to Grand Valley State University 7-2. They bounced back against West Virginia Wesleyan, picking up a 6-1 win. Casey Beemiller was dominant in the win, striking out 12. Rebekkah Keller made it eight straight games with a hit with one in each game today.
 
With the Marauders split today, the team has improved to 10-9 on the season.
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 2 Grand Valley State University 7
Four Marauders accounted for UMary's four hits in their 7-2 loss to GVSU. The Marauders hung tough against the Lakers but a five run second inning proved to be the difference in the game. A Madelynn Trout single knocked in Emma Noble in the fourth to give UMary their first run on the game. In the fifth Mikaela Pelesauma reached on a fielder's choice when Rebekkah Keller was able to advance to third and then score on the throw.
 
PIVOT POINT
It was a scoreless draw after the first inning but the Lakers came out in the second and recorded five fits that knocked in five runs to take a 5-0 lead. The Marauders played GVSU evenly the remainder of the game but couldn't make up the deficit.

The Marauders preseason player to watch, Rebekkah Keller has been on fire the past few games. With her hit in the game against GVSU she has recorded a hit in seven straight games.

 
GAME 3 UMary 6 West Virginia Wesleyan College 1
A well balanced offensive attack featured seven Marauders recording the teams seven hits. On the defensive end Casey Beemiller continued to dominate. She picked up the complete game win while striking out 12 batters. The Marauders were able to get on the board early and jump out to a 4-0 lead after the first. UMary added two more runs in the third to go up 6-0. WVWC eventually scored one run in the sixth but that was all UMary allowed.
  
PIVOT POINT
The Marauders came out hot in the first inning, scoring four of their six runs to begin the game. A Rachael Laetsch single knocked in the first run of the game followed by another two runs coming home off of a Madelynn Trout single. The Marauders rounded out the first inning when Kasidy Chileen reached on a fielder's choice to send home Laetsch.

Casey Beemiller continued her dominance with a 12 strikeout performance against WVWC. In her last three appearances she is 3-0 with 36 strikeouts.
 
UP NEXT
The Marauders wrap up their play in the Sunshine State tomorrow, March 6. They will play Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 1:30 PM. They follow that up with a matchup with Urbana University at 3:45 PM.
