Dominant First Half Propels Marauders Past Peacocks

BISMARCK, ND – Five different University of Mary women's basketball players found themselves in double figures while a total of eight players found the bottom of the bucket for the Marauders. The well-balanced offensive attack by UMary allowed the team to roll past Upper Iowa University by a score of 77-61. Lauren Rotunda led the offensive charge for UMary with a 17 point, 12 rebound double double. Cassie Askvig pitched in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Coral Gillette pitched in 12 points with Megan Voit and Christal Hearn each adding 11. It was a dominant first half that clinched the win for the Marauders, knocking down 56 percent of their shots from the field to outscore the Peacocks 47-22 in the first.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 16-10 overall and 10-7 in NSIC play. Upper Iowa falls to 3-20 on the season and 2-14 in the conference.
  
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders kicked off the half on a 9-0 run. The Peacocks were able to respond with a 12-0 run of their own to take a 12-9 lead, their largest of the first half. The first quarter would end with the Marauders leading 17-16. The second quarter was all Marauders, holding a 30-6 advantage to send the game to half at 47-22. Seven different Marauders scored buckets in the first half. Lauren Rotunda led the way with 13 points and five rebounds. Cassie Askvig had eight points, six boards, and three assists. Voit added eight, Williams pitched in seven, and Gillette had six.
 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders started the second half by extending their lead all the way to 30 just a minute into the third quarter. UMary outscored the Peacocks by four in the third quarter. Upper Iowa was able to outscore UMary 22-9 in the fourth quarter but the Marauders dominant lead was too much for the Peacocks to overcome, with UMary claiming a 16 point win.
