Marauders Break NCAA Era Single Season Record With 20th Win In Victory Over Wolves

BISMARCK, ND – With their 67-54 victory over Northern State, the University of Mary has broken the Marauders NCAA era single season wins record. UMary's 20th win this season broke the previous record of 19 wins which was set in both 2011-12 and 2012-13. Dominant defense propelled the Marauders to this record setting win with the Marauders holding the Wolves to just 17 first half points, including a mere seven points in the first quarter. Cassie Askvig led the way on the offensive end for UMary, posting 19 points with Lauren Rotunda adding 11 and Lexie Schneider pitching in 10.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 20-10 on the season and 14-7 in NSIC play. NSU falls to 12-15 on the season and 8-12 in conference play. 
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders defense dominated in the first half, holding Northern State to a mere 17 points, including just seven in the first quarter. The Marauders got their shots to fall starting in the second quarter, knocking down 56.25 percent of their shots from the field to extend UMary's lead from five to 17 heading into intermission. Cassie Askvig led the way for the Marauders with 10 first half points, Lexie Schneider added eight points with all of them coming in the second quarter.
 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
After being held scoreless in the first half, Lauren Rotunda led the Marauders with 11 points in the second half. Cassie Askvig added nine of her own to assist in helping the Marauders maintain the lead. The Wolves were able to get their offense going, dropping twice as many points in the second half as they did in the first. However, the Marauders had a response for every run the Wolves attempted to make, maintaining a double digit lead all the way until the end.
