Rotunda scores her 1,000 career point as Marauders win in thrilling fashion over Dragons

BISMARCK, ND – Lauren Rotunda scored her 1,000th career point as the University of Mary women's basketball team picked up win number 21 on the season with their thrilling 69-67 victory over MSU Moorhead. After a slow start, UMary came storming back in the final three quarters of play to claim the victory. The Marauders knocked down seven free throws down the stretch and shoot 67 percent from the field in the fourth quarter to help seal the deal on the Marauders win. On a milestone night for Rotunda, she posted a massive double double with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Cassie Askvig pitched in 19 points with Williams adding 10.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 21-10 on the season and 15-7 in NSIC play. MSUM falls to 17-12 on the season and 10-10 in conference play. 
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
After a slow start that featured the Dragons claiming a 19-5 lead after the first quarter, the Marauders came storming back. UMary closed out the half on a 23-6 run to bring the score within two heading into half, 32-30. Rotunda was dominant in the first half, posting 17 points and nine rebounds before intermission. Askvig (9) and Williams (4).
 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
UMary found themselves down five heading into the fourth. A pair of jumpers by Williams followed by treys by both Voit and Gillette started the Marauders fourth quarter run. Back to back buckets in the paint by Askvig gave the Marauders a four point lead with less than two minutes remaining. The Marauders then went to work from the free throw line, knocking down 7-of-8 attempts in the closing minutes.
The Marauders held a four point lead with 19 seconds left when the Dragons knocked down a three to bring the score within 1. Rotunda knocked down a free throw to extend the lead back to two but the Dragons responded, evening the score back up. Macy Williams would then head to the free throw line with six seconds left to retake a two point lead for UMary. The Marauders locked down on defense to protect the win as the clock ticked down.
